For Parents
A little information for parents
What do Scouts do?
Scouts is where young people make new friends, have amazing adventures, and learn new skills. From camping and hiking to coding and community projects — there's something for everyone.
Every week we give almost half a million 4–25 year olds the skills they need for school, college, university, the job interview, the important speech, the tricky challenge and the big dreams: the skills they need for life.
Everyone's welcome here. All genders, races and backgrounds. Regardless of your young person's physical ability — there's a Scout adventure out there waiting for them. And we'll help them find it.
ScoutWorks
All our sections use our Group Management Platform - ScoutWorks for their admin – as well as holding basic information about your child it also allows us to plan our programme, run events and collect activity payments and subscriptions more easily. When you first join you will be invited to the parent portal. If you are having issues or have any questions please ask your leaders. For communication all leaders are required to use our group O365 account. Email should have the form firstname.lastname@1sthardingstone.org.uk or jobtitle@1sthardingstone.org.uk
Safe and Sound
Make sure you update SW if you’ve recently moved, changed your phone number or we need to know about any special requirements you child may have. It’s important that we know so we can make sure we all enjoy our Scouting in a safe way.
We are all Volunteers!
Remember all our Leaders are volunteers and don’t get paid for what they do. They are amazing and we thank them for volunteering. Please always be polite and respectful when you have dealings with them. They are all happy to help where they can
As well as the Leaders you see we have a whole team including our Group Trustee Board, fundraisers and administrators. If you’re interested in getting more involved talk to your section leader.
Keeping young people safe
The safety of young people is our number one priority. All adult volunteers are vetted through the DBS process and follow the Scouts' safeguarding policy. Scouts also has a dedicated safeguarding team available if you ever have concerns.
